Bryan Rankine vs Ewan Hobbs

Boxing Daily Report from the New Zealand National Finals 2023,  taking place on 17/04/2023 from Waitakere, New Zealand:

The Waitakere venue is completely packed out with the fans turning out in force to watch the fights on offer tonight.  
Next up we have the Final of the Light Welterweight divison.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 3 round matchup are Bryan Rankine (30 - 10) who hails from Christchurch, New Zealand and Ewan Hobbs(22 - 12) from North Shore, New Zealand.  

Round 1: 

Rankine hits home with a cross.  
Hobbs manouvers Rankine onto the ropes.  Rankine lands a jab.

Rankine pivots to the side of his opponent, but Hobbs is on target with a left uppercut.  
Rankine closes the distance.  Rankine sidesteps to the left of his opponent and digs in a right hook to his opponents ribs.  
Hobbs walks Rankine onto the ropes.  Hobbs hits home with a cross.  
Rankine tries to land a jab, but Hobbs parries the shot and counters with a right uppercut.  
Rankine pivots to the right of his opponent and drives a jab into his opponents body.  
Hobbs sidesteps to the left of his opponent, but Rankine lands a cross.  
Hobbs is on target with a cross.  
Rankine gets on the inside.  Rankine pivots from in front of his opponent and lands a right hook to the head followed by a right uppercut to the body.  
Rankine quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent and lands a left uppercut to the head followed by a right hook to the body.  
Rankine is looking to keep his distance.  Hobbs tries to land a jab, but Rankine slips the shot and counters with a right hook.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Rankine's trainer is telling his fighter to play it safe for the remainder of the fight.
