Floyd Hughes vs Ollie Barclay

Boxing Daily Report from the Jamaica National Finals 2024,  taking place on 26/03/2024 from New Kingston, Jamaica:

The New Kingston venue is completely packed out with the fans turning out in force to watch the fights on offer tonight.  
Next up we have a Quarter Final fight in the Light Heavyweight divison.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 3 round matchup are Floyd Hughes (5 - 2) who hails from Portmore, Jamaica and Ollie Barclay(18 - 11) from Portmore, Jamaica.  

Round 1: 

Hughes throws a jab, but his opponent sidesteps and counters with a cross.  
Hughes hits the target with a stiff jab.  
Hughes finds the target with a jab.  
Barclay forces Hughes to retreat onto the ropes.  Barclay pivots to the right of his opponent and lands a cross.  
Barclay manages to force Hughes into the corner.  Barclay is on target with a cross.

Barclay pivots to the left of his opponent, but Hughes lands a left hook to the body followed by a cross to the head.

Barclay quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent and lands a straight 1 - 2.  
Hughes sidesteps to the right of his opponent and hits home with a cross.

Barclay voluntarily retreats back onto the ropes...he waves his opponent in!  Hughes accepts the invitation, throwing powerful combos, but is unable to land anything on Barclay.  Hughes finds the target with a jab.  
Hughes sidesteps to the left of his opponent and drives a right hook into Barclay's body.  
Hughes lands a sharp jab.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Barclay's trainer is telling his fighter he is winning comfortably and should get on his bike for the remainder of the fight.
