Fumio Konda vs Kaede Konya

Boxing Daily Report from the Japan National Finals 2024,  taking place on 26/03/2024 from Hakodate, Japan:

The Hakodate venue is completely packed out with the fans turning out in force to watch the fights on offer tonight.  
Next up we have a Quarter Final fight in the Light Welterweight divison.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 3 round matchup are Fumio Konda (29 - 9) who hails from Higashiosaka, Japan and Kaede Konya(20 - 13(1)) from Kyoto, Japan.  

Round 1: 

Konda closes the distance and lands a right hook.  
Konya steps to the outside.  Konda tries to land a cross, but Konya slips the shot and counters with a right uppercut.

Konda lands a left uppercut to the head followed by a jab to the body.  
Konda pivots to the side of his opponent, but Konya lands a double jab to his opponents head.  
Konda closes the distance.  Konda tries to land a left hook, but Konya sidesteps and counters with a right uppercut to Konda's body.  
Konda lands a left hook followed by a right hook to his opponents head.  He continues the combination and lands a right hook followed by a left hook to his opponents head.  
Konya steps to the outside.  Konda lands a jab, cross and a jab to his opponents head.  
Konda gets on the inside.  Konda lands a double right hook to his opponents head.  
Konda forces Konya to back into the ropes.  Konda lands a left uppercut to the body followed by a left hook to the head.  He continues the combination and lands a left uppercut followed by a right hook to his opponents body.  
Konda advances into close range and hits home with a left hook.  
Konda backs onto the ropes...he is waving his opponent in!  Konya accepts the invitation, throwing powerful combos, but is unable to land anything on Konda.  
Konya pivots to the left of his opponent, but Konda is on target with a right uppercut to his opponents body.  
Konya quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent, but Konda lands a jab.  
Konda is looking to keep the action on the outside.  Konya lands a jab followed by  two straights to his opponents head.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Konda's trainer is telling his fighter he is a mile in front and not to do anything stupid.
