Boxing Daily Report from the Africa Boxing Championships 2026,  taking place on 09/01/2026 from Kano, Nigeria:

The Kano venue is completely packed out with the fans turning out in force to watch the fights on offer tonight.  
Next up we have a Quarter Final fight in the Lightweight divison.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 3 round matchup are Amer Tariq (19 - 25) who hails from Tangier, Morocco and Ali Salek(20 - 7) from Kampala, Uganda.  

Round 1:

Tariq steps inside and is on target with a solid right hook.  
Salek closes the distance and throws a right uppercut, but his opponent sidesteps and counters with a right uppercut.  
Salek closes the distance and lands a left uppercut to the head followed by a left hook to the body.  
Tariq lands two left hooks to his opponents ribs.  
Salek finds the target with a sharp jab.  
Salek gets on the inside.  Tariq throws a left hook, but his opponent avoids the punch.  Tariq clinches his opponent.  Tariq is using his forearm in the clinch.  The referee warns Tariq and breaks the clinch.  
Tariq contemptuously drops his hands, trying to provoke his opponent.  Salek throws a cross, but his opponent sidesteps and counters with a sharp right hook.
