James Groves vs John Erwin

Boxing Daily Report from the Australia National Finals 2026,  taking place on 17/03/2026 from Perth, Australia:

The Perth venue is completely packed out with the fans turning out in force to watch the fights on offer tonight.  
Next up we have the Final of the Light Flyweight divison.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 3 round matchup are James Groves (18 - 18) who hails from Gold Coast, Australia and John Erwin(26 - 11) from Melbourne, Australia.  

Round 1: 

Groves advances into close range.  Groves quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent and is on target with a right hook.  
Erwin pivots to the side of his opponent, but Groves lands a cross to the body followed by a jab to the head.  
Groves closes the distance and digs in a right hook to his opponents ribcage.  
Erwin hits the target with a hard jab.

Groves gets on the inside.  Erwin pivots from in front of his opponent and lands a right hook.  
Erwin sidesteps to the right of his opponent and hits home with a stinging jab.  
Groves closes the distance.  Erwin pivots from in front of his opponent and lands a left uppercut followed by a left hook to his opponents head.  
Erwin attempts to land a jab, but Groves sidesteps and counters with a right hook.  
Groves is looking to close the distance.  Erwin pivots from in front of his opponent, but Groves lands a right uppercut, left hook and a right hook to his opponents head.  
Erwin quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent.  Groves digs in a left uppercut to Erwin's body.  Groves tries to land a left hook, but his opponent blocks the shot and counters with a right uppercut.  
Erwin pivots from in front of his opponent and lands a jab followed by a left hook to his opponents head.  
Groves is looking to close the distance and lands a left hook to the head, a right hook to the body and a left uppercut to the body.  
Erwin pivots to the right of his opponent and hits home with a left hook.
