Chris Ruane vs Leighton Erskin

Boxing Daily Report from the New Zealand National Finals 2027,  taking place on 11/04/2027 from Auckland, New Zealand:

The Auckland venue is completely packed out with the fans turning out in force to watch the fights on offer tonight.  
Next up we have a Quarter Final fight in the Bantamweight divison.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 3 round matchup are Chris Ruane (6 - 13) who hails from Wellington, New Zealand and Leighton Erskin(3 - 11) from Christchurch, New Zealand.  

Round 1: 

Ruane is looking to close the distance and lands consecutive right uppercuts to his opponents body.  
Ruane advances into close range and is on target with a right hook.  
Erskin pivots to the left of his opponent, but Ruane connects with a solid cross.  
Ruane steps inside and attempts to land a left hook, but Erskin blocks the shot and counters with a right uppercut.  
Ruane gets on the inside and walks Erskin down, trapping him on the ropes.  Erskin connects with a sharp right hook.  
Ruane manages to force Erskin onto the ropes.  Ruane lands a left hook to the body followed by a jab to the head.  
Ruane closes the distance and lands a right uppercut to the head followed by a left hook to the body.  
Ruane is on target with a right hook.  
Erskin snaps his opponents head back with a spiteful jab.  Erskin throws a jab, but his opponent sidesteps and counters with a cross.  
Ruane lands a straight 1 - 2.  
Ruane lands a left uppercut to the body followed by a cross to the head.  
Erskin quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent, but Ruane is on target with a cross.  
Erskin lands a jab.  
Ruane sidesteps to the right of his opponent.  Ruane attempts to land a left uppercut, but Erskin blocks the shot and counters with a left hook to Ruane's ribs.  
Erskin is looking to keep his distance and connects with a cross.  
Ruane lands a cross followed by a right uppercut to his opponents head.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Ruane's trainer is telling his fighter he is a mile in front and not to do anything stupid.
