John Headen vs Roger Downey

Boxing Daily Report from the AI USA-Kentucky promoted show at Louisville Owens, Louisville,  taking place on 02/09/2025:

The venue is mostly sold out with the fans eager to turn out for tonights fights.  
Next up is the main event of the show.  On the line tonight is the USA-Florida Welterweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 10 round matchup are John Headen (9(1) - 0 - 1) who hails from Port St. Lucie, USA and Roger Downey(6 - 14(1) - 3) from Miami, USA.  Headen weighed in at 146 pounds And 11 ounces, while Downey weighed in at 147 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Arthur Trumble, and the three ringside judges are Dylan Johnston, Cris Garcia and Joseph Nicolson.  

Round 1: 

Headen gets on the inside.  Headen quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent and lands three consecutive left hooks to his opponents ribs.  
Headen pivots to the left of his opponent.  Downey throws a left hook, but Headen holds on to his opponent.  Headen is using his forearm in the clinch.  The ref breaks Headen's hold and signals for the fight to continue.

Headen lands a left hook to the body, and then to the head.  He follows up the attack and lands a left hook followed by a left uppercut to his opponents head.  Headen holds on to his opponent.  Headen pushes his forearm into Downey's face.  The referee warns Headen and breaks the clinch.

The ref acknowledges the accidental headclash but allows the action to continue.    That accidental headbutt has resulted in some damage to Downey.  That has caused slight swelling  around the right eye.  
Headen is looking to keep his distance.  Headen feints a jab, but Downey ignores the feint and lands with a left hook.  
Headen feints a jab, and then lands a cross.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Downey's trainer is suggesting ways of getting through to his opponent.  Downey's trainer is telling his fighter to increase his workrate.  Downey's trainer is passing on some tactical advice.

Headen is looking to close the distance and is on target with a left hook.  
Headen advances into close range and lands a left hook to the body, and then to the head.  He continues the combination and lands a double left hook to his opponents head.
