Rex Neel vs Richie Bortone

Boxing Daily Report from the Gold Coast Promotions promoted show at Gold Gym, Brisbane,  taking place on 20/09/2025:

The venue is mostly sold out with the fans eager to turn out for tonights fights.  
Next up is the main event of the show.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 6 round matchup are Rex Neel (4 - 0) who hails from Canberra, Australia and Richie Bortone(8 - 4(1) - 2) from Brisbane, Australia.  Neel weighed in at 135 pounds, while Bortone weighed in at 134 pounds and 13 ounces.  
The referee tonight is Sammy Feamster, and the three ringside judges are Johnny Deasmhumhain, Zain Sharifi and Robert Reekie.  

Round 1: 

Neel advances into close range.  Bortone tries to land a right uppercut, but Neel sidesteps and counters with a cross.  
Bortone connects with a right hook.  Bortone attempts to land a jab, but Neel blocks the shot and counters with a right uppercut.  
Neel is looking to close the distance.  Neel pivots from in front of his opponent and lands a left hook to the body, and then to the head.  
Bortone tries to step out of his opponents range.  Neel lands a jab to the head followed by a cross to the body.  
Neel attempts to land a cross, but Bortone slips the shot and counters with a left hook.  
Neel closes the distance.  Neel sidesteps to the right of his opponent and lands a stinging left hook.  
Bortone steps away from his opponent.  Neel drops his hands, and waves his opponent in.  Bortone tries to land an overhand right, but his opponent blocks the shot and counters with a right uppercut.  
Bortone is on target with a right uppercut.  
Neel gets on the inside.  Neel pivots to the left of his opponent and lands a left uppercut to the body followed by a right hook to the head.  
Bortone digs in a left hook to Neel's body.  
Neel gets on the inside.  Neel sidesteps to the left of his opponent and connects with a left hook.  
Neel quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent.  Bortone attempts to land a right hook, but Neel slips the shot and counters with a left hook.  
Neel walks Bortone down, trapping him in the corner.  Neel lands a solid right hook.  The two boxers are fighting in-close, but their heads clash!  The ref does not appear to have noticed the clash as Bortone dabs at his face checking for damage.  
Neel walks his opponent into the corner.  Neel lands a cross to the head followed by a left uppercut to the body.  
Neel pivots to the side of his opponent and drives a right hook into Bortone's body.  
Neel hits home with a solid cross.  
Neel feints a cross, fooling Bortone into launching a left hook counter.  Neel springs the trap and counters with  a sharp left uppercut.  
Bortone feints a jab, but Neel does not fall for it and lands with a right hook.  
Neel pivots from in front of his opponent.  Bortone throws a left hook, but his opponent sidesteps and counters with a stinging left uppercut.  
Neel manouvers his opponent into a corner.  Neel pivots to the left of his opponent and lands a right hook followed by a left hook to his opponents head.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Bortone's trainer is suggesting ways of getting through to his opponent.  Bortone's trainer is passing on some tactical advice.

Neel uses his free hand to throw a hook, but it hits Bortone behind the head. The referee separates the two fighters and warns Neel.
