Akira Sano vs Jiro Kondo

Boxing Daily Report from the Nottinggham Promotions promoted show at Sendai Tajima, Sendai,  taking place on 19/04/2026:

Clearly Nottinggham Promotions have made a mistake booking this venue with less than half the tickets sold, including those handed out as prizes by Boxing Daily.  
Next up is the main event of the show.  This is a final eliminator for the Japan-Miyagi Welterweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 10 round matchup are Akira Sano (10(2) - 2) who hails from Sendai, Japan and Jiro Kondo(8 - 9 - 1) from Sendai, Japan.  Sano weighed in at 147 pounds, while Kondo weighed in at 146 pounds And 12 ounces.  
The referee tonight is Mitsuru Asano, and the three ringside judges are Satoshi Matsui, Mitsuru Miyake and Satoshi Matsui.  

Round 1: 

Sano advances into close range.  Kondo throws a left hook, but Sano clinches his opponent.  As they grapple, Sano pushes his forearm into Kondo's face.  The referee warns Sano and breaks the clinch.  
Sano drives a right uppercut into Kondo's ribs.  Sano ties up his opponent.  Sano is leaning on his opponent in the clinch. The ref breaks the clinch and signals for the action to continue.  
Sano steps inside.  Kondo throws a right hook, but Sano ties up his opponent.  Kondo pushes his forearm into Sano's face.  The ref halts the action and breaks the clinch.  He lectures Kondo about fouling.  
Sano steps inside and lands a right hook followed by a left hook to his opponents body.  Sano ties up his opponent.  Sano is leaning on his opponent in the clinch. The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
Sano lands a right uppercut followed by a left hook to his opponents body.  
Sano gets on the inside and throws a left uppercut, but his opponent blocks the shot and counters with a cross.  
Sano lands a right hook to the body followed by a left hook to the head.  Sano holds on to his opponent.  Kondo leans on his opponent using all his weight. The ref separates the two fighters.

Sano steps inside.  As Kondo tries to work on the inside, the fighters heads come together!  The ref acknowledges the accidental headclash but allows the action to continue.    It looks like the clash of heads has caused some damage to Sano.  That has caused slight swelling  around the right eye.
