Michael Nieves vs Justin Hermosillo

Boxing Daily Report from the North Star Boxing promoted show at Jonathan Club, Los Angeles,  taking place on 13/07/2026:

The venue is mostly sold out with the fans eager to turn out for tonights fights.  
Next up is the main event of the show.  On the line tonight is the USA-Pacific Super Welterweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance and those watching live on MSG Network, the two fighters competing in this 12 round matchup are Michael Nieves (13(5) - 0) who hails from Long Beach, USA and Justin Hermosillo(6 - 5(1) - 1) from Huntington Beach, USA.  Both Nieves and Hermosillo weighed in at 154 pounds.  
The referee tonight is William Shawn, and the three ringside judges are Rob Fulton, Clinton Proffitt and Khalid Shaikh.  

Round 1: 

Nieves lands a jab followed by a overhand right to his opponents head.  
Hermosillo contemptuously drops his hands, trying to provoke his opponent.  Nieves hits home with a left uppercut.  
Nieves is looking to close the distance and lands a right hook to the body followed by a right uppercut to the head.

Nieves hits home with a firm left hook.  Nieves holds on to his opponent.  Nieves leans on his opponent using all his weight. Nieves tries to make the space to throw a hook, but hits Hermosillo's kidney. The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
Nieves hits home with a spiteful jab.  
Hermosillo tries to keep the action at long range.  Nieves is on target with a sharp cross.  Nieves tries to land a cross, but his opponent slips the shot and counters with a right hook.

At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Hermosillo's trainer is suggesting ways of getting through to his opponent.  Hermosillo's trainer is telling his fighter he is being outworked and needs to throw more.  Hermosillo's trainer is passing on some tactical advice.
