Mehmet Vardar vs Zhelyazko Gruev

Boxing Daily Report from the AI Bulgaria-Sofia promoted show at Sofia Kabanov, Sofia,  taking place on 15/05/2026:

Clearly AI Bulgaria-Sofia have made a mistake booking this venue with less than half the tickets sold, including those handed out as prizes by Boxing Daily.  
Next up is the main event of the show.  This is a semi final eliminator for the Bulgaria-Sofia Cruiserweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 10 round matchup are Mehmet Vardar (10 - 11 - 2) who hails from Sofia, Bulgaria and Zhelyazko Gruev(6 - 10 - 2) from Sofia, Bulgaria.  Both Vardar and Gruev weighed in at 200 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Luben á Filimonov, and the three ringside judges are Kamen á Rangelov, Yakov á Hlutev and Miroslav á Yordanov.  

Round 1: 

Vardar feints a cross, but Gruev does not fall for it and responds with a right uppercut.  
Vardar hits home with an overhand right.  
Gruev closes the distance and attempts to land a right hook, but Vardar sidesteps and counters with a left hook.  
Gruev throws a left hook, but his opponent parries the shot and counters with a left hook.

Gruev gets on the inside and lands a left hook to the body, and then to the head.  
Gruev walks Vardar down, trapping him in the corner.  Gruev drives a right hook into his opponents body.  
Gruev is on target with a left hook to Vardar's body.  
Gruev closes the distance and hits home with a left hook.
