John Snoddy vs John Hughen

Boxing Daily Report from the AI New Zealand-Canterbury promoted show at Brin Kemp Gym, Christchurch,  taking place on 27/05/2026:

Clearly AI New Zealand-Canterbury have made a mistake booking this venue with less than half the tickets sold, including those handed out as prizes by Boxing Daily.  
Next up is the main event of the show.  This is a semi final eliminator for the New Zealand-Canterbury Middleweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 10 round matchup are John Snoddy (10 - 6(1) - 3) who hails from Christchurch, New Zealand and John Hughen(4 - 11 - 3) from Christchurch, New Zealand.  Snoddy weighed in at 160 pounds, while Hughen weighed in at 159 pounds and 4 ounces.  
The referee tonight is Ewan Roxburgh, and the three ringside judges are Ian Fergerson, Gareth Young and Dave Pera.

Snoddy retreats back to the ropes, and waits for his opponent to attack.  Hughen is whaling away with hooks, but Snoddy keeps his defence tight.

Hughen closes the distance.  As the two fighters work on the inside, their heads come together!  The ref does not appear to have noticed the clash as Hughen dabs at his face checking for damage.
