Will Obiri vs Ibrahim Awad

Boxing Daily Report from the AI Kenya-Mombasa promoted show at Mombasa Bosibori, Mombasa,  taking place on 23/06/2026:

There are a few empty seats out here tonight, but this is a respectable turnout for the show.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  This is a semi final eliminator for the Kenya-Mombasa Welterweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance and those watching live on KTV, the two fighters competing in this 10 round matchup are Will Obiri (7 - 8 - 3) who hails from Mombasa, Kenya and Ibrahim Awad(3 - 14 - 1) from Mombasa, Kenya.  Both Obiri and Awad weighed in at 147 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Hayden Sakudao, and the three ringside judges are Dembe Mutunga, Dembe Mutunga and Jay Matiku.  

Round 1: 

Obiri throws a left hook, but is not on target.  Obiri ties up his opponent.  Obiri is leaning on his opponent in the clinch. The ref separates the two fighters.  
Obiri is looking to close the distance.  Awad lands a left hook to the body followed by a left uppercut to the head.  
Awad throws a cross, but his opponent sidesteps and counters with a right uppercut.  
Obiri gets on the inside and tries to land a left uppercut, but his opponent blocks the shot and counters with a left hook.  
Obiri throws an uppercut to the body, but lands well below the belt!  The ref stops the action and gives Awad time to recover.
