Ian McCants vs Russell Rees

Boxing Daily Report from the Papafio Promotions promoted show at Jasper Donnellon Gym, Lowell,  taking place on 31/08/2026:

There are plenty of empty seats out here tonight, with the show nowhere near close to selling out.  
Next up is the main event of the show.  This is a final eliminator for the USA-Massachusetts Super Featherweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 10 round matchup are Ian McCants (11(1) - 2 - 1) who hails from Lowell, USA and Russell Rees(13 - 6 - 1) from Boston, USA.  Both McCants and Rees weighed in at 130 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Nathan Burt, and the three ringside judges are Charles Keath, Hassan Quadri and Fred Reese.  

Round 1: 

Rees is looking to keep the action on the outside.  McCants lands a jab followed by  two straights to his opponents head.  
McCants drives a right hook into his opponents ribs.  
McCants hits home with a cross.  
McCants advances into close range and lands a right hook to the body, and then to the head.  
Rees tries to step out of his opponents range.  McCants lands a firm cross.  
McCants gets on the inside and lands a left uppercut followed by a right hook to his opponents head.  McCants clinches his opponent.  As they grapple, McCants pushes his forearm into Rees's face.  The ref halts the action and breaks the clinch.  He lectures McCants about fouling.  
Rees pivots from in front of his opponent.  Rees throws a right hook, but McCants clinches his opponent.  McCants leans on his opponent trying to wear him down. The ref breaks the clinch and signals for the action to continue.  
Rees tries to land a jab, but his opponent sidesteps and counters with a left hook to his opponents liver.  
McCants closes the distance.  Rees throws a left hook, but McCants clinches his opponent.  McCants leans on his opponent using all his weight. The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
McCants lands a right uppercut to the head followed by a left uppercut to the body.
