Jose Cantos vs Juan Gamero

Boxing Daily Report from the Chilembe Promotions promoted show at Onofre Ortiz Gym, Havana,  taking place on 16/08/2026:

Clearly Chilembe Promotions have made a mistake booking this venue with less than half the tickets sold, including those handed out as prizes by Boxing Daily.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  This is a semi final eliminator for the Cuba-Havana Lightweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 10 round matchup are Jose Cantos (9 - 5 - 3) who hails from Havana, Cuba and Juan Gamero(10 - 5 - 2) from Havana, Cuba.  Both Cantos and Gamero weighed in at 135 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Santiago Villano, and the three ringside judges are Juan Ledezma, Lisandro Abela and Saturnin Milan.  

Round 1: 

Gamero pivots from in front of his opponent.  Cantos lands a left uppercut.  
Gamero is looking to close the distance and connects with a left uppercut.  
Cantos hits home with an overhand right.  
Gamero quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent and hits home with a right hook.  
Cantos tries to step out of his opponents range and connects with a cross.

Cantos switches the action to the outside.  Cantos quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent.  Gamero attempts to land an overhand right, but Cantos slips the shot and counters with a cross.  
Gamero closes the distance and connects with a left uppercut.  
Gamero goes for the bodyshot, but lands south of the border!  The ref ignores Cantos's complaints and signals for the action to continue.  
At the end of Round 2, lets listen in on the corners...Cantos's trainer is passing on some tactical advice.  Gamero's trainer is advising how he could improve the accuracy of his work.

Cantos switches the action to the outside.  Cantos feints a right hook, but Gamero ignores the feint and is on target with a left uppercut.  
Gamero drives a left hook into his opponents body.  
Gamero is looking to close the distance and connects with a left hook.
