John Kones vs Lavaughn Angwenyi

Boxing Daily Report from the Bos Firefighters promoted show at Mbaraki Sports Club, Mombasa,  taking place on 14/11/2026:

There are a few empty seats out here tonight, but this is a respectable turnout for the show.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  This is a semi final eliminator for the Eastern African Super Welterweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance and those watching live on WWX Sport, the two fighters competing in this 12 round matchup are John Kones (10 - 7(2) - 3) who hails from Nairobi, Kenya and Lavaughn Angwenyi(12 - 3) from Nairobi, Kenya.  Kones weighed in at 153 pounds And 13 ounces, while Angwenyi weighed in at 154 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Tavon Wanga, and the three ringside judges are Michael Bwakali, Joey Keino and Fraser Magwanga.  

Round 1: 

Angwenyi steps inside and throws a right hook, but his opponent steps away from the punch.  Angwenyi holds on to his opponent.  As they grapple, Angwenyi pushes his forearm into Kones's face.  The referee separates the two fighters and warns Angwenyi.  
Angwenyi connects with a firm left hook.  
Angwenyi walks his opponent down, trapping him in the red corner.  Angwenyi lands a right hook followed by a left uppercut to his opponents head.  
Angwenyi throws a right uppercut, but the shot is blocked.  Angwenyi holds on to his opponent.  Angwenyi tries to make the space to throw a hook, but hits Kones's kidney. The ref breaks Angwenyi's hold and signals for the fight to continue.  
Angwenyi steps to the outside and hits home with a spiteful jab.
