Shevon Chipeta vs Mel Pont

Boxing Daily Report from the AI Zimbabwe-Bulawayo promoted show at Bulawayo Mtukudzi, Bulawayo,  taking place on 07/06/2040:

The venue is mostly sold out with the fans eager to turn out for tonights fights.  
Next up is the main event of the show.  This is a semi final eliminator for the Zimbabwe-Bulawayo Super Welterweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 10 round matchup are Shevon Chipeta (15(6) - 5(4)) who hails from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and Mel Pont(7 - 10(5) - 2) from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.  Both Chipeta and Pont weighed in at 154 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Matt Quilliam, and the three ringside judges are Billy Mpofu, Lloyd Chipeta and Arran Sibanda.  

Round 1: 

Chipeta is looking to close the distance and lands two right hooks to his opponents ribs.  Chipeta holds on to his opponent.  Chipeta pushes his forearm into Pont's face.  The referee warns Chipeta and breaks the clinch.  
Chipeta tries to land a jab, but his opponent sidesteps and counters with a left uppercut.  
Chipeta closes the distance.  Chipeta pivots to the side of his opponent.  Pont throws a right uppercut, but Chipeta holds on to his opponent.  Chipeta leans on his opponent trying to wear him down. The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
Chipeta forces Pont to retreat into the corner.  Chipeta throws a right hook, but his opponent blocks the shot and counters with a right uppercut.  
Chipeta pivots from in front of his opponent and is on target with a sharp right uppercut to Pont's body.  
Chipeta drives a right hook into his opponents ribs.  
Chipeta lands a left hook to the body followed by two right hook's to the head.  Chipeta holds on to his opponent.  Chipeta throws a hook within the clinch but hits his opponent behind the head. The ref halts the action and breaks the clinch.  He lectures Chipeta about fouling.  
Chipeta pivots to the left of his opponent and digs in a left hook to his opponents liver.  
Pont is looking to keep the action on the outside.  Chipeta lands a straight 1 - 2.  
Chipeta steps inside and is on target with a firm left hook.  
Chipeta gets on the inside and lands a left hook to the body, and then to the head.  
Chipeta sidesteps to the right of his opponent and is on target with a jab.  
Chipeta is looking to close the distance and is on target with a left hook to his opponents ribs.  
Chipeta connects with a right hook.  
Chipeta closes the distance and lands a left hook to the head followed by a left uppercut to the body.  
Pont tries to step out of his opponents range.  Chipeta lands a cross to the body followed by a jab to the head.  
Chipeta lands a right hook to the body, a left hook to the head and a right hook to the body.  
Chipeta is looking to close the distance and lands two left hooks to his opponents ribs.  
Chipeta voluntarily retreats back onto the ropes...he waves his opponent in!  Pont steps in throwing power shots but is unable to land cleanly.  
Chipeta advances into close range.  Pont quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent.  Pont attempts to land a left hook, but Chipeta slips the shot and counters with a forceful left uppercut.  PONT WAS STUNNED BY THAT SHOT!  
Chipeta senses a stoppage victory - he just needs the right shot.  Chipeta lands a left uppercut, right hook and a left uppercut to his opponents head.  He continues the combination and lands a cross, right uppercut and a left uppercut to his opponents head.  Pont now appears to have recovered from that earlier shot.  
Chipeta is on target with a sharp left hook.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Pont's trainer is advising how he could improve the accuracy of his work.  Pont's trainer is telling his fighter to increase his workrate.  Pont's trainer is passing on some tactical advice.  Pont's trainer is telling his fighter to tighten his defence.

Pont tries to step out of his opponents range.  Chipeta hits home with a cross.  
Chipeta steps inside.  Pont pivots to the side of his opponent.  Pont throws a right uppercut, but Chipeta ties up his opponent.  Chipeta leans on his opponent trying to wear him down. The ref breaks the clinch and signals for the action to continue.  
Chipeta is looking to close the distance and digs in a left hook to Pont's body.  
Chipeta connects with a left uppercut.  Chipeta clinches his opponent.  Chipeta leans on his opponent using all his weight. The ref breaks Chipeta's hold and signals for the fight to continue.  
Chipeta digs in a right hook to Pont's body.  
Pont is looking to keep the action on the outside.  Chipeta is on target with an overhand right.  
Chipeta lands a double jab to his opponents head.  
Chipeta advances into close range and lands a left hook.  
Pont quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent.  Chipeta lands two consecutive straights to his opponents head.  
Chipeta is looking to close the distance and lands two right hooks to his opponents ribs.  Chipeta ties up his opponent.  Chipeta leans on his opponent using all his weight. The ref separates the two fighters.  
Chipeta lands a right uppercut to the body followed by a left hook to the head, AND DOWN GOES PONT!  He manages to get up at 8.  
Chipeta advances into close range and lands a right uppercut to the head, a left uppercut to the body and a left hook to the body, AND PONT IS DOWN!  He is back up on his feet at 8.  
Pont could be stopped here, if Chipeta can find the right shot!  Chipeta lands a right hook to the body followed by a left hook to the head.  He continues the combination and lands a left hook, right uppercut and a left hook to his opponents body, DROPPING PONT TO THE CANVAS!  He tries to rise on shaky legs but Pont cant beat the count!  The winner by KO is Chipeta!
