Patrick Hickey vs Paul Payne

Boxing Daily Report from the Leprechaun Promotions promoted show at Leon Brogan Gym, Belfast,  taking place on 18/07/2040:

There are a few empty seats out here tonight, but this is a respectable turnout for the show.  
Next up is the main event of the show.  This is a semi final eliminator for the British-Northern Ireland Welterweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 10 round matchup are Patrick Hickey (31(14) - 5(5)) who hails from Bangor, UK and Paul Payne(3 - 3(1)) from Belfast, UK.  Both Hickey and Payne weighed in at 147 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Paul Sheridan, and the three ringside judges are Rory Mulrennan, David Hastie and James McAfee.  

Round 1: 

Hickey steps inside.  Hickey sidesteps to the right of his opponent.  Hickey lands a right uppercut to the body, a left hook to the head and a left uppercut to the head.  Hickey ties up his opponent.  Hickey is using his forearm in the clinch.  The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
Hickey hits home with a stiff jab.  
Hickey gets on the inside and digs in a left uppercut to his opponents liver.  
Hickey lands a left hook to the body followed by a right hook to the head.  Hickey ties up his opponent.  Hickey is using his forearm in the clinch.  The referee separates the two fighters and warns Hickey.  
Hickey walks his opponent down, trapping him in the corner.  Hickey pivots from in front of his opponent.  Hickey digs in a left uppercut to Payne's body.  Hickey ties up his opponent.  Hickey throws a hook within the clinch but hits his opponent behind the head. Hickey tries to make the space to throw a hook, but hits Payne's kidney. The ref breaks the clinch and signals for the action to continue.  
Hickey lands three consecutive straights to his opponents head.  
Hickey advances into close range.  Hickey quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent and lands a left hook, right hook and a left hook to his opponents body.  
Hickey pivots to the side of his opponent and lands a left uppercut to the head, a left hook to the body and a left hook to the head.  
Payne switches the action to the outside.  Hickey lands three consecutive jabs to his opponents head.  
Hickey steps inside.  Hickey pivots to the side of his opponent and connects with a right hook.  
Hickey cuts off the ring, trapping Payne on the ropes.  Hickey lands a left uppercut to the body, a left hook to the head and a left hook to the body.  
Hickey drives a right hook into Payne's body.  
Payne tries to keep the action at long range.  Hickey lands a hard jab.  
Hickey advances into close range and hits home with a left hook.  
Hickey manouvers his opponent onto the ropes.  Hickey lands a left uppercut followed by a right hook to his opponents head.  Hickey ties up his opponent.  Hickey tries to make the space to throw a hook, but hits Payne behind the head. The ref separates the two fighters.  
Hickey quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent and connects with a cross.

Hickey lands a left uppercut to the head followed by a cross to the body.

Hickey feints a jab, tricking Payne into throwing a right uppercut counter.  Hickey is waiting for the shot and counters with a left hook.  
Hickey feints a right hook, and then is on target with a left hook.  
Hickey advances into close range.  Hickey lands a right uppercut followed by  two right hooks to his opponents head.  
Hickey pivots from in front of his opponent and lands a right hook followed by a left uppercut to his opponents head.  
Hickey switches the action to the outside.  Hickey quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent and hits home with a hard jab.  
Hickey lands a cross.  
Hickey closes the distance and lands a left hook followed by a right uppercut to his opponents head.  Hickey ties up his opponent.  Hickey is leaning on his opponent in the clinch. The ref breaks Hickey's hold and signals for the fight to continue.  
Payne throws an uppercut to the body, but lands well below the belt!  The ref stops the action and gives Hickey time to recover.  
Payne tries to land a left uppercut, but Hickey sidesteps and counters with a solid cross.  
Hickey steps away from his opponent and lands a cross, jab and a cross to his opponents head.  
Hickey closes the distance and connects with a right hook.  Hickey attempts to land a right hook, but Payne blocks the shot and counters with a right uppercut.  
Hickey steps away from his opponent and lands a cross to the body, an overhand right to the head and a jab to the head.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Payne's trainer is telling his fighter he is being outworked and needs to throw more.  Payne's trainer is passing on some tactical advice.  Payne's trainer is advising how he could stop so many clean shots getting through.

Payne quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent.  Hickey lands a right uppercut followed by a right hook to his opponents head, AND STUNS HIS OPPONENT!  Hickey holds on to his opponent.  Hickey tries to make the space to throw a hook, but hits Payne's kidney. Hickey leans on his opponent trying to wear him down. The referee separates the two fighters and warns Hickey to stop holding.  
Hickey senses his opponent is hurt.  He is looking to stop Payne and just needs the right shot.  Hickey connects with a hurtful cross.  DOWN GOES PAYNE!  He is back up on his feet at 4.  
Hickey steps to the outside.  Hickey lands a big right uppercut.  PAYNE IS DOWN!  HE FAILS TO BEAT THE COUNT!  The winner by KO is Hickey!
