Oscar Hunua vs Daniel Pye

Boxing Daily Report from the Gold Coast Promotions promoted show at Logan Campbell Centre, Auckland,  taking place on 19/01/2024:

The venue is completely packed out with the fans turning out in force to watch the fights on offer tonight.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  On the line tonight is the New Zealand Super Welterweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance and those watching live on Sommet Sports, the two fighters competing in this 12 round matchup are Oscar Toa Hunua (13(9) - 0) who hails from North Shore, New Zealand and Daniel Pye(8 - 2) from Manukau, New Zealand.  Both Hunua and Pye weighed in at 154 pounds.  
The referee tonight is George Brain, and the three ringside judges are Hamahona Kurawhatia, Rob Horsburgh and James Woodburn.  

Round 1: 

Hunua lands a solid jab.  
Hunua advances into close range.  Pye pivots to the right of his opponent.  Hunua lands a left hook to the body followed by two right hook's to the head.  Hunua ties up his opponent.  Hunua pushes his forearm into Pye's face.  The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
Hunua manouvers his opponent into the corner.  Hunua lands a right hook to the body, and then to the head.  He then lands a left hook followed by a right hook to his opponents head.  
Hunua hits home with a cross.  
Hunua is looking to close the distance and lands a left hook.  Hunua ties up his opponent.  Hunua is using his forearm in the clinch.  The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
Hunua lands a left uppercut to the body followed by a right hook to the head.  He follows up the attack and lands a right hook to the body, and then to the head.  Hunua clinches his opponent.  As they grapple, Hunua pushes his forearm into Pye's face.  The referee warns Hunua and breaks the clinch.  
Hunua lands a cross followed by a jab to his opponents head.  
Hunua gets on the inside and lands a right hook.  
Hunua lands a right hook to the body followed by a left hook to the head.  
Hunua lands a right hook followed by a right uppercut to his opponents head.  Hunua ties up his opponent.  Hunua leans on his opponent using all his weight. The ref separates the two fighters.  
Hunua forces Pye to back into the ropes.  Hunua lands two consecutive left uppercuts to his opponents head.  Hunua clinches his opponent.  Hunua is leaning on his opponent in the clinch. The ref separates the two fighters.  
Hunua drives a left hook into his opponents body.  
Hunua lands a right hook followed by a jab to his opponents head.  He continues the combination and lands a right hook to the head, a right hook to the body and a jab to the head, AND HIS OPPONENT IS HURT!  Pye almost instantly recovers. 
Hunua steps inside and lands a left hook followed by a right hook to his opponents head.  
Hunua lands a right hook followed by a left hook to his opponents head.  Hunua holds on to his opponent.  As they grapple, Hunua pushes his forearm into Pye's face.  The ref halts the action and breaks the clinch.  He lectures Hunua about fouling.  
Hunua digs in a solid left uppercut to Pye's body.  The two boxers are fighting in-close, but their heads clash!  The ref does not appear to have noticed the clash as Hunua dabs at his face checking for damage.  
Hunua lands a left uppercut to the body, a cross to the head and a left uppercut to the body.  
Pye is looking to keep the action on the outside.  Hunua is on target with a cross.  
Hunua gets on the inside and digs in a stinging right hook to Pye's body.

Hunua sidesteps to the left of his opponent and lands a left hook followed by a right uppercut to his opponents head.  He follows up the attack and lands a right hook followed by a left hook to his opponents head.  THAT HURT HIS OPPONENT!  Pye almost instantly gets his legs back.

Hunua lands a right hook to the body followed by a left hook to the head.  He follows up the attack and lands a left hook to the body, and then to the head, AND STUNS HIS OPPONENT!  Hunua ties up his opponent.  Hunua is leaning on his opponent in the clinch. The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
Pye now seems to have recovered from the bodyshot.  
Hunua pivots from in front of his opponent and lands a left hook to the body, a right hook to the head and a left uppercut to the head.  
Pye switches the action to the outside.  Hunua hits home with an overhand left.  
Hunua advances into close range.  Hunua sidesteps to the right of his opponent.  Hunua lands a right hook followed by a left hook to his opponents head.  Hunua holds on to his opponent.  Hunua leans on his opponent using all his weight. The ref breaks Hunua's hold and signals for the fight to continue.  Hunua tries to land a left hook, but Pye parries the shot and counters with a cross.  
At the end of Round 2, lets listen in on the corners...Pye's trainer is telling his fighter to increase his workrate.  Pye's trainer is passing on some tactical advice.

Hunua lands two left hooks to his opponents ribs, AND DROPS PYE TO THE CANVAS!  He is on his feet as the count reaches 4.  Pye almost instantly recovers. 
Hunua lands a right hook to the body followed by a left hook to the head.  HE HAS HIS OPPONENT IN TROUBLE!  
Hunua sees his opponent is hurt.  He's looking for the finish!  Hunua is on target with a WICKED right uppercut.  PYE HAS BEEN KNOCKED DOWN!  He beats the count, getting up at 8.  It looks like Pye has now recovered from that shot earlier.  
Pye tries to step out of his opponents range.  Hunua hits home with a cross.  Hunua tries to land a cross, but Pye slips the shot and counters with a left uppercut.  
Hunua closes the distance and lands a left uppercut to the body followed by a right hook to the head.  He follows up the attack and lands a left hook to the body, a right hook to the body and a right hook to the head.

Hunua lands a right uppercut followed by a right hook to his opponents head.  
Hunua gets on the inside and hits home with a solid left uppercut.  
Hunua advances into close range and digs in a stinging right hook to his opponents ribcage.  
Hunua walks Pye into the corner.  Hunua hits home with a solid right hook.  Hunua ties up his opponent.  Hunua leans on his opponent trying to wear him down. The referee breaks up the clinch and lectures Hunua to stop holding.

He continues the combination and lands a right uppercut to the body followed by two left hook's to the head, AND DROPS PYE TO THE CANVAS!  He fails to beat the count!  The winner by KO is Hunua!
