Jay Baston vs Sylvain Ndiaye

Boxing Daily Report from the Wigwam Promotions promoted show at Wigwam Gym, Dakar,  taking place on 30/12/2023:

The venue is completely packed out with the fans turning out in force to watch the fights on offer tonight.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 4 round matchup are Jay Baston (2 - 0) who hails from Dakar, Senegal and Sylvain Ndiaye(3 - 7 - 4) from Dakar, Senegal.  Both Baston and Ndiaye weighed in at 130 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Landry de la Bretonne, and the three ringside judges are Holland Mandiang, Sid Soumah and Vernon Thiaw.  

Round 1: 

Ndiaye connects with a right hook.  Ndiaye wants to work on the inside, but accidentally clashes heads with his opponent!  The ref acknowledges the accidental headclash but allows the action to continue.    It looks like the clash of heads has caused some damage to Baston.  That has caused slight swelling  around the right eye.  
Baston lands a jab.  
Baston gets on the inside and connects with a right hook.  
Baston sidesteps to the left of his opponent.  Baston throws a left uppercut, but is off-target.  Baston ties up his opponent.  Baston pushes his forearm into Ndiaye's face.  The ref halts the action and breaks the clinch.  He lectures Baston about fouling.  
Ndiaye lands a cross.  
Baston gets on the inside and lands a right hook to the body, and then to the head.  
Baston attempts to land a right uppercut, but Ndiaye slips the shot and counters with a right hook.  
Baston is on target with a firm right hook to Ndiaye's body.  
Baston tries to land a cross, but his opponent sidesteps and counters with a cross.  
Ndiaye closes the distance.  Baston lands a right uppercut to the body followed by two right hook's to the head.  Baston clinches his opponent.  Baston uses his free hand to throw a hook, but it hits Ndiaye behind the head. The referee separates the two fighters and warns Baston.

At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Ndiaye's trainer is advising how he could improve the accuracy of his work.  Ndiaye's trainer is telling his fighter he needs to be more active or he's going to get outworked.

Ndiaye throws a right hook, but Baston holds on to his opponent.  Ndiaye tries to make the space to throw a hook, but hits Baston's kidney. The ref separates the two fighters.
