Sammy Wight vs Matt Smith

Boxing Daily Report from the Gold Coast Promotions promoted show at Gold Gym, Brisbane,  taking place on 22/01/2024:

The venue is completely packed out with the fans turning out in force to watch the fights on offer tonight.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance and those watching live on WIN, the two fighters competing in this 8 round matchup are Sammy The Brisbane Bomber Wight (9(3) - 0) who hails from Adelaide, Australia and Matt Smith(8 - 2 - 1) from Newcastle, Australia.  Both Wight and Smith weighed in at 112 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Chris Weir, and the three ringside judges are Scott Martin, Francesco Ghiglia and Neil McAllaster.  

Round 1: 

Smith finds the target with a jab.  
Wight steps to the outside and lands a cross, jab and a cross to his opponents head.  
Wight is on target with a cross.  
Wight is looking to keep the action on the outside and attempts to land a jab, but Smith slips the shot and counters with a left uppercut.  
Wight steps to the outside and lands a cross followed by a jab to his opponents head.  
Wight gets on the inside and lands a left hook to the body, and then to the head.  Wight ties up his opponent.  Wight leans on his opponent trying to wear him down. The ref breaks the clinch and signals for the action to continue.

Wight clinches his opponent.  Wight pushes his forearm into Smith's face.  The ref halts the action and breaks the clinch.  He lectures Wight about fouling.

Wight lands a cross followed by a jab to his opponents head.  
Wight steps away from his opponent and lands a jab followed by a overhand left to his opponents head.  Wight throws a jab, but his opponent slips the shot and counters with a left hook.

Wight lands two consecutive straights to his opponents head.  
Smith advances into close range.  Wight pivots from in front of his opponent and lands a left hook to the head followed by a left uppercut to the body.  He continues the combination and lands a left uppercut followed by a right hook to his opponents head.  
Wight lands a right uppercut followed by a left hook to his opponents head.  
Wight tries to step out of his opponents range.  Smith attempts to land a cross, but Wight blocks the shot and counters with a solid cross.  
Wight is looking to close the distance and drives a left uppercut into his opponents body.  
Wight is looking to close the distance and throws a right hook, but his opponent steps away from the shot.  Wight clinches his opponent.  Wight tries to make the space to throw a hook, but hits Smith behind the head. The referee breaks the clinch and warns Wight to stop fouling.

Wight switches the action to the outside and lands an overhand right, cross and a jab to his opponents head.  
Smith advances into close range.  Wight is on target with a right hook to his opponents body.  
Smith manages to force Wight into the red corner.  Wight is on target with a right hook to his opponents body.  Wight clinches his opponent.  Wight leans on his opponent trying to wear him down. The ref breaks the clinch and signals for the action to continue.  
Wight hits home with a stinging cross.  
Wight lands a right hook to the body followed by a cross to the head.  
Wight closes the distance and lands a right uppercut to the head followed by a right hook to the body, AND HIS OPPONENT IS HURT!  Smith almost instantly gets his legs back. 
Wight sidesteps to the right of his opponent and lands a double jab to his opponents head.  
Wight is looking to close the distance and lands a right uppercut to the body followed by a left hook to the head, AND HIS OPPONENT IS HURT!  Smith quickly recovers. 
At the end of Round 2, lets listen in on the corners...Smith's trainer is advising how he could improve the accuracy of his work.

Wight gets on the inside.  Smith wants to work on the inside, but accidentally clashes heads with his opponent!  The ref does not appear to have noticed the clash as Wight dabs at his face checking for damage.

Wight hits home with a solid overhand right.  
Wight drives a sharp jab into his opponents face.  
Wight closes the distance.  Smith tries to land a left hook, but his opponent blocks the shot and counters with a right hook.  
Wight lands a FIERCE cross.  SMITH WAS STUNNED BY THAT SHOT!  Wight attempts to land a left hook, but Smith sidesteps and counters with a left hook.  
Smith now seems to have got his legs back.  
Wight hits home with an overhand right.  
Wight steps away from his opponent and lands an overhand right followed by a cross to his opponents head.  
Smith sidesteps to the right of his opponent.  Wight drives a solid jab into his opponents face.  
Wight tries to keep the action at long range and connects with a cross.  
Wight is on target with a cross.  
Wight closes the distance and throws a left hook, but his opponent slips the punch.  Wight ties up his opponent.  Wight throws a hook within the clinch but hits his opponent behind the head. The ref halts the action and breaks the clinch.  He lectures Wight about fouling.  
Smith cuts off the ring, trapping Wight on the ropes.  Smith pivots from in front of his opponent and is on target with a left hook.  
Wight steps inside and hits home with a right hook.  
Wight steps away from his opponent and lands an overhand right followed by a jab to his opponents head.  
Smith steps inside.  Smith sidesteps to the right of his opponent.  Smith attempts to land a left hook, but Wight slips the shot and counters with a sharp right hook.  
Smith forces Wight to retreat into the corner.  Smith hits home with a cross.  
Wight gets on the inside and digs in a left hook to his opponents body.  
At the end of Round 3, lets listen in on the corners...Wight's trainer is passing on some tactical advice.  Smith's trainer is advising how he could stop so many clean shots getting through.
