Igor Cilvecinsh vs Sergei Barotajs

Boxing Daily Report from the Latvia Boxing promoted show at Latvia Gym, Riga,  taking place on 26/01/2024:

The venue is completely packed out with the fans turning out in force to watch the fights on offer tonight.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 4 round matchup are Igor Cilvecinsh (2 - 0) who hails from Riga, Latvia and Sergei Barotajs(5 - 6) from Riga, Latvia.  Cilvecinsh weighed in at 160 pounds, while Barotajs weighed in at 159 pounds And 14 ounces.  
The referee tonight is Afon Shaurinsh, and the three ringside judges are Isaak Pulkstens, Fadei Zvaigznite and Melor Rags.  

Round 1: 

Cilvecinsh closes the distance.  Barotajs tries to land a right uppercut, but his opponent slips the shot and counters with a left uppercut.  
Cilvecinsh steps inside.  Barotajs pivots to the side of his opponent.  Cilvecinsh lands a right hook followed by a left hook to his opponents head.  
Cilvecinsh connects with a right hook.  
Cilvecinsh is on target with a right hook.  The two boxers are fighting in-close, but their heads clash!  The ref does not appear to have noticed the clash as Barotajs dabs at his face checking for damage.  
Cilvecinsh steps inside.  Cilvecinsh sidesteps to the right of his opponent and lands a right hook, left hook and a right hook to his opponents body.  
Cilvecinsh lands a right hook.  
Barotajs sidesteps to the right of his opponent.  Cilvecinsh lands two consecutive straights to his opponents head.  
Cilvecinsh is looking to close the distance and digs in a right hook to his opponents ribcage.  
Cilvecinsh throws a left hook, but his opponent parries the shot.  Cilvecinsh holds on to his opponent.  As they grapple, Cilvecinsh pushes his forearm into Barotajs's face.  The ref breaks the clinch and signals for the action to continue.  
Cilvecinsh lands a right hook to the head followed by a left hook to the body.  He then lands a right hook to the head followed by a right uppercut to the body.  
Barotajs throws a left uppercut, but Cilvecinsh holds on to his opponent.  Cilvecinsh is leaning on his opponent in the clinch. The ref breaks the clinch and signals for the action to continue.  
Barotajs switches the action to the outside.  Cilvecinsh is on target with a cross.  
Cilvecinsh gets on the inside.  Cilvecinsh pivots to the side of his opponent and lands a right hook to the body, and then to the head.  
Cilvecinsh sidesteps to the right of his opponent and lands a left hook to the body, and then to the head.  
Cilvecinsh hits home with a left hook.  
Cilvecinsh is on target with a right hook to Barotajs's body.  
Cilvecinsh pivots from in front of his opponent and is on target with a right hook.  
Cilvecinsh quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent and hits home with a right hook.  
Cilvecinsh steps inside.  Cilvecinsh digs in a solid left uppercut to Barotajs's body.  Cilvecinsh wants to work on the inside, but accidentally clashes heads with his opponent!  The ref acknowledges the accidental headclash but allows the action to continue.    That accidental headbutt has resulted in some damage to Barotajs.  That has caused minor swelling  around the left eye.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Barotajs's trainer is telling his fighter he is being outworked and needs to throw more.  Barotajs's trainer is advising how he could improve his defence.
