Ollie Maddox vs Mike Howell

Boxing Daily Report from the Smoking Joe promoted show at Stramler Park, Bakersfield,  taking place on 10/04/2024:

The venue is completely packed out with the fans turning out in force to watch the fights on offer tonight.  
Next up is the main event of the show.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 8 round matchup are Ollie Maddox (2 - 0) who hails from San Bernardino, USA and Mike Howell(6 - 4 - 4) from Houston, USA.  Both Maddox and Howell weighed in at 135 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Chris Jones, and the three ringside judges are Amer Othman, Bradley Eade and Cris Garcia.  

Round 1: 

Maddox closes the distance.  Maddox pivots to the right of his opponent and lands two left hooks to his opponents ribs.  
Maddox lands a left hook to the body, a left uppercut to the body and a right hook to the head.  
Maddox lands with a sharp jab.  
Maddox pivots to the side of his opponent and is on target with a sharp right hook.  The two boxers are fighting in-close, but their heads clash!  The ref does not appear to have noticed the clash as Howell dabs at his face checking for damage.

Maddox pivots to the side of his opponent and connects with a left hook.  
Maddox lands a double left hook to his opponents head.

Maddox steps inside and lands a left hook to the head, a left hook to the body and a left uppercut to the head.  
Maddox lands an overhand right.  
Maddox manouvers his opponent onto the ropes.  Maddox quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent and lands a right hook.  
Maddox is on target with a firm left uppercut.  
Maddox is looking to keep his distance and hits home with an overhand right.  
Howell sidesteps to the right of his opponent.  Howell attempts to land a cross, but Maddox dodges the shot and counters with a cross.  
Howell gets on the inside.  Maddox digs in a solid right uppercut to Howell's ribcage.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Howell's trainer is advising how he could improve the accuracy of his work.  Howell's trainer is telling his fighter he needs to be more active or he's going to get outworked.  Howell's trainer is telling his fighter to tighten his defence.
