Michi Iwai vs Michi Obara

Boxing Daily Report from the Gold Coast Promotions promoted show at Tokyo Okamoto, Tokyo,  taking place on 13/04/2024:

The venue is mostly sold out with the fans eager to turn out for tonights fights.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 4 round matchup are Michi Iwai (1 - 0) who hails from Higashiosaka, Japan and Michi Obara(1 - 0) from Nagoya, Japan.  Both Iwai and Obara weighed in at 126 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Hikaru Onaga, and the three ringside judges are Naoki Morita, Ryo Shiroma and Hikaru Mikami.  

Round 1: 

Iwai lands two jabs followed by a cross to his opponents head.  
Iwai steps inside and is on target with a sharp right hook to his opponents body.  
Obara attempts to land a cross, but Iwai sidesteps and counters with a solid left hook.  
Iwai sidesteps to the right of his opponent and hits home with a stinging cross.  
Obara steps away from his opponent.  Iwai feints a cross, and then is on target with a stinging jab.  
Iwai finds the target with a solid jab.  
Iwai is looking to close the distance.  Iwai pivots to the right of his opponent and lands a right uppercut to the head followed by a left hook to the body.

Iwai digs in a left hook to Obara's ribs.  As Obara tries to work on the inside, the fighters heads come together!  The ref does not appear to have noticed the clash as Iwai dabs at his face checking for damage.

Iwai steps inside.  Iwai pivots from in front of his opponent and lands a left uppercut followed by a left hook to his opponents head.  
Iwai manages to force Obara onto the ropes.  Iwai lands a right hook followed by a left uppercut to his opponents head.  
Iwai lands a left hook followed by a right hook to his opponents head.  
Iwai leans back on the ropes...he waves his opponent in!  Obara tries to tag Iwai on the ropes, but his opponent blocks every shot!  
Obara is looking to keep the action on the outside.  Obara throws an uppercut to the body, but lands well below the belt!  The ref ignores Iwai's complaints and signals for the action to continue.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Obara's trainer is advising how he could be more accurate.  Obara's trainer is telling his fighter he needs to be more active or he's going to get outworked.  Obara's trainer is telling his fighter to tighten his defence.
