Leo Gray vs Aoi Watanabe

Boxing Daily Report from the AI Japan-Aichi promoted show at Higashiyama Park Tennis Center, Nagoya,  taking place on 01/05/2024:

The venue is completely packed out with the fans turning out in force to watch the fights on offer tonight.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance and those watching live on Sky-A Sports, the two fighters competing in this 10 round matchup are Leo Gray (12(10) - 0) who hails from Brampton, Canada and Aoi Watanabe(2 - 4 - 3) from Sapporo, Japan.  Both Gray and Watanabe weighed in at 147 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Nao Sugiyama, and the three ringside judges are Taro Jo, Yuji Tanaka and Keiichi Kobayashi.  

Round 1: 

Gray gets on the inside and lands a left hook to the body followed by a right uppercut to the head.  
Gray manouvers Watanabe into a neutral corner.  Gray lands a right uppercut followed by a right hook to his opponents head.  
Gray is on target with a left hook.  
Gray lands a left uppercut followed by a right hook to his opponents head.  
Gray pivots to the right of his opponent and lands a cross to the body, and then to the head.  
Gray drives a right uppercut into his opponents body.  
Gray sidesteps to the right of his opponent and lands two consecutive straights to his opponents head.  
Gray is looking to close the distance and drives a firm left uppercut into Watanabe's liver.  
Gray finds the target with a jab.  
Gray drives a solid left hook into his opponents body.  
Gray forces Watanabe to back into the ropes.  Gray pivots to the left of his opponent and lands a left hook followed by a right uppercut to his opponents head.  
Gray quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent and hits home with a solid cross.  
Gray steps inside and lands a left hook followed by a right hook to his opponents head.  
Gray quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent and lands a right uppercut to the head followed by a left hook to the body.  The two boxers are fighting in-close, but their heads clash!  The ref does not appear to have noticed the clash as Gray dabs at his face checking for damage.  
Gray lands a left hook to the body, a right hook to the head and a left hook to the body.  
Gray cuts off the ring, trapping Watanabe in a corner.  Gray lands a right uppercut followed by a left uppercut to his opponents head.  
Gray pivots from in front of his opponent and lands a left uppercut followed by a left hook to his opponents body.  
Gray is looking to close the distance.  Gray leans back on the ropes...he waves his opponent in!  Watanabe tries to tag Gray on the ropes, but his opponent blocks every shot!  
Gray lands a right hook followed by a right uppercut to his opponents body.  He follows up the attack and lands a right hook to the head followed by a left hook to the body.  
Gray steps inside and lands a right hook to the body followed by a left hook to the head.  HE HAS HIS OPPONENT IN TROUBLE!  Watanabe recovers before his opponent can take advantage. 
Gray closes the distance.  Gray lands a solid right uppercut.  Watanabe wants to work on the inside, but accidentally clashes heads with his opponent!  The ref acknowledges the accidental headclash but allows the action to continue.    It looks like the clash of heads has caused some damage to Gray.  That has caused slight swelling  around the left eye.  
Gray lands two left hooks to his opponents ribs.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Watanabe's trainer is suggesting ways of getting through to his opponent.  Watanabe's trainer is telling his fighter he needs to be more active or he's going to get outworked.

Gray lands a right uppercut to the body, and then to the head.  
Gray connects with a left uppercut.  
Gray is on target with a cross.  
Gray gets on the inside.  Watanabe pivots to the side of his opponent.  Gray lands a left hook followed by a right hook to his opponents head.  He then lands two left hooks to his opponents ribs, AND STUNS HIS OPPONENT!  
Gray is on target with a powerful left hook to Watanabe's body.  Watanabe now seems to have recovered from the bodyshot.  
Gray lands a cross.  
Gray lands a right hook to the head followed by a left hook to the body.  
Gray tries to land a left hook, but Watanabe parries the shot and counters with a left hook.  
Gray lands a cross.  
Watanabe steps away from his opponent and throws a jab, but his opponent sidesteps and counters with a solid left hook to his opponents liver.  
Watanabe sidesteps to the left of his opponent.  Gray lands a left hook.  
Gray lands a left hook to the body, and then to the head.  
Watanabe tries to step out of his opponents range and attempts to land a jab, but Gray blocks the shot and counters with a sharp left hook.  
Watanabe pivots to the left of his opponent.  Gray lands a left uppercut.  
Gray lands a right hook followed by a left hook to his opponents head, AND STUNS HIS OPPONENT!  
Gray is looking to put the pressure on now...he knows a few clean shots could mean an early night.  Gray lands two consecutive left uppercuts to his opponents head, AND SENDS WATANABE SPRAWLING TO THE CANVAS!  He beats the count, getting up at 8.  Watanabe now seems to have got his legs back.

Watanabe sidesteps to the left of his opponent.  Gray connects with a left hook.  Gray holds on to his opponent.  As they grapple, Gray pushes his forearm into Watanabe's face.  The ref halts the action and breaks the clinch.  He lectures Gray about fouling.  
Watanabe quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent.  Gray lands a left uppercut followed by a right uppercut to his opponents body.  
Watanabe pivots from in front of his opponent.  Watanabe throws a right hook, but Gray ties up his opponent.  Gray leans on his opponent trying to wear him down. The ref breaks Gray's hold and signals for the fight to continue.  
Watanabe lands a left uppercut followed by a cross to his opponents head.  
Gray lands a nasty left hook.  IT LOOKS LIKE WATANABE WAS HURT BY THAT SHOT!  
Gray is on target with a firm right hook to his opponents body.  Watanabe now appears to have recovered from that earlier shot.  
Gray is looking to close the distance and lands a left uppercut to the body followed by a right hook to the head.  
Gray steps inside and tries to land a right uppercut, but his opponent slips the shot and counters with a right hook to Gray's body.  
Watanabe throws a jab, but his opponent parries the shot and counters with a big left uppercut.  IT LOOKS LIKE WATANABE WAS HURT BY THAT SHOT!  Watanabe recovers before his opponent can take advantage.

Gray lands a left hook to the body, a right hook to the head and a left hook to the head.  HE HAS HIS OPPONENT IN TROUBLE!  Watanabe quickly recovers.

Gray steps inside and lands a double right hook to his opponents head, AND KNOCKS WATANABE DOWN!  He remains on the canvas as the count reaches 10!  The winner by KO is Gray!
