Daichi Niwa vs Takeo Fukushima

Boxing Daily Report from the Gold Coast Promotions promoted show at Tokyo International Forum, Tokyo,  taking place on 31/05/2024:

There are a few empty seats out here tonight, but this is a respectable turnout for the show.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  This is a semi final eliminator for the Japan Heavyweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance and those watching live on TBS, the two fighters competing in this 12 round matchup are Daichi Niwa (11 - 3 - 2) who hails from Hachioji, Japan and Takeo Fukushima(5 - 9 - 5) from Tokyo, Japan.  Niwa weighed in at 244 pounds, while Fukushima weighed in at 236 pounds And 6 ounces.  
The referee tonight is Hideki Ishibashi, and the three ringside judges are Hisao Yamane, Dai Ishikawa and Eiji Mizuno.  

Round 1: 

Niwa attempts to land a jab, but Fukushima parries the shot and counters with a cross.  
Fukushima lands a left hook.  
Fukushima is looking to keep his distance and tries to land a cross, but Niwa blocks the shot and counters with a left hook.  
Fukushima connects with a cross.

Fukushima is looking to keep the action on the outside and lands an overhand left followed by a jab to his opponents head.  
Fukushima goes for the bodyshot, but lands south of the border!  The ref ignores Niwa's complaints and signals for the action to continue.  
Niwa steps inside.  Fukushima is on target with a left hook.  
Niwa is on target with a right hook.  As Niwa tries to work on the inside, the fighters heads come together!  The ref does not appear to have noticed the clash as Fukushima dabs at his face checking for damage.  
Niwa hits home with a right hook.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Niwa's trainer is suggesting ways of getting through to his opponent.  Niwa's trainer is telling his fighter he is being outworked and needs to throw more.  Fukushima's trainer is advising how he could improve the accuracy of his work.
