Kirk Mortensen vs Leighton Thoms

Boxing Daily Report from the Mr. Vicious promoted show at City West Hotel, Dublin,  taking place on 01/06/2024:

There are a few empty seats out here tonight, but this is a respectable turnout for the show.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 8 round matchup are Kirk Mortensen (0 - 0) who hails from Oslo, Norway and Leighton Thoms(10 - 4 - 1) from Cork, Ireland.  Both Mortensen and Thoms weighed in at 135 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Lewis Carroll, and the three ringside judges are Lee Donnell, Aaron Hearn and Leon McPeters.  

Round 1: 

Mortensen digs in a solid left hook to his opponents body.  
Mortensen gets on the inside and digs in a left uppercut to Thoms's ribs.  
Thoms feints a right hook, and then attempts to land a right uppercut, but Mortensen dodges the shot and counters with a stinging right hook.  
Mortensen sidesteps to the right of his opponent and lands with a solid jab.  
Mortensen steps inside and lands a stinging left hook.  
Mortensen gets on the inside and lands two right hooks to his opponents ribs.  
Mortensen lands a left hook to the body, and then to the head.  
Mortensen lands a right hook to the body, and then to the head.  
Mortensen feints a jab and triggers a right hook counter from Thoms.  Mortensen springs the trap and counters with  a left hook.  
Mortensen steps inside and lands a left uppercut to the head followed by a right uppercut to the body.  
Mortensen lands a left hook followed by a right hook to his opponents body.  
Mortensen digs in a solid left hook to Thoms's body.  
Mortensen is on target with a stinging right hook to Thoms's ribcage.  
Mortensen sidesteps to the right of his opponent and digs in a stinging left hook to Thoms's body.  
Mortensen sidesteps to the left of his opponent and digs in a solid left uppercut to Thoms's body.  
Mortensen lands a left hook to the body, and then to the head.  HE HAS HIS OPPONENT IN TROUBLE!  
Mortensen manouvers Thoms onto the ropes.  Mortensen senses a stoppage victory - he just needs the right shot.  Mortensen lands two left hooks to the body, and one to the head.  He then lands three consecutive left hooks to his opponents ribs.  
Mortensen lands a left hook to the head followed by a right uppercut to the body, AND THOMS IS DOWN!  He beats the count, getting up at 4.  It looks like Thoms has now recovered from that earlier bodyshot.  
Mortensen digs in a left uppercut to Thoms's body.  
Thoms switches the action to the outside and is on target with an overhand right.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Thoms's trainer is telling his fighter to increase his workrate.  Thoms's trainer is passing on some tactical advice.  Thoms's trainer is advising how he could stop so many clean shots getting through.
