Mark Cherkoian vs Sammy Burness

Boxing Daily Report from the Hennessy Boxing promoted show at Convention & Exhibition Centre, Melbourne,  taking place on 16/11/2024:

There are a few empty seats out here tonight, but this is a respectable turnout for the show.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  On the line tonight is the Australia Super Featherweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance and those watching live on SBS1, the two fighters competing in this 12 round matchup are Mark Cherkoian (7 - 3) who hails from Gold Coast, Australia and Sammy Burness(12(3) - 4) from Sydney, Australia.  Both Cherkoian and Burness weighed in at 129 pounds and 7 ounces.  
The referee tonight is Ian Suit, and the three ringside judges are Mark McBride, Gus Seward and Aaron Hadjinyan.  

Round 1: 

Burness lands a left hook followed by a left uppercut to his opponents head.  
Burness lands two consecutive right uppercuts to his opponents head.  
Burness feints a cross, and then is on target with a left hook to his opponents body.  
Burness advances into close range and lands a right uppercut to the head followed by a left uppercut to the body.  
Burness lands a right uppercut to the body, a right uppercut to the head and a left uppercut to the body.  Burness holds on to his opponent.  As they grapple, Burness pushes his forearm into Cherkoian's face.  The referee warns Burness and breaks the clinch.  
Burness lands a right uppercut to the body, a left hook to the head and a left hook to the body.  As the two fighters work on the inside, their heads come together!  The ref acknowledges the accidental headclash but allows the action to continue.  Burness has been damaged by the clash of heads.  That has caused slight swelling  around the left eye.  
Cherkoian is on target with a left hook to Burness's ribs.  Burness holds on to his opponent.  Burness leans on his opponent trying to wear him down. The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
Burness sidesteps to the right of his opponent and lands three consecutive right uppercuts to his opponents body.  
Burness lands a right hook to the body followed by a right uppercut to the head.  
Burness gets on the inside and digs in a stinging left hook to Cherkoian's ribs.  
Burness is on target with a firm right hook to his opponents ribs.  
Burness is looking to close the distance and manouvers Cherkoian into the corner.  Burness is on target with a left hook to his opponents body.  
Burness digs in a sharp left uppercut to his opponents body.  Burness tries to land a right uppercut, but Cherkoian blocks the shot and counters with a cross.  
Burness is on target with a left uppercut to Cherkoian's body.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Cherkoian's trainer is advising how he could improve the accuracy of his work.  Cherkoian's trainer is telling his fighter he is being outworked and needs to throw more.

Burness lands a right hook to the body followed by a left uppercut to the head.  
Burness manouvers Cherkoian onto the ropes.  Cherkoian connects with a left hook.  
Burness lands consecutive right uppercuts to his opponents body.
