Fidel Cara vs Ponce Mejias

Boxing Daily Report from the Rattlesnake Promotions promoted show at UT Arlington College Park Center, Arlington,  taking place on 17/01/2025:

Clearly Rattlesnake Promotions have made a mistake booking this venue with less than half the tickets sold, including those handed out as prizes by Boxing Daily.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 10 round matchup are Fidel Cara (20(18) - 0) who hails from Ponce, Puerto Rico and Ponce Mejias(12 - 2(1) - 3) from Guayaquil, Ecuador.  Cara weighed in at 112 pounds, while Mejias weighed in at 111 pounds and 10 ounces.  
The referee tonight is Paul Speed, and the three ringside judges are Floyd Celestino, Amon East and Henry Messer.  

Round 1: 

Mejias tries to land a jab, but Cara blocks the shot and counters with a right uppercut.  
Cara gets on the inside.  Mejias tries to land a right hook, but his opponent slips the shot and counters with a left hook.  
Cara lands a left hook followed by a right uppercut to his opponents head.  Cara throws a right hook, but his opponent parries the shot and counters with a right uppercut.  
Mejias throws a short cross to the body, but lands low!  The ref stops the action and gives Cara time to recover.  
Mejias throws a right hook, but Cara holds on to his opponent.  Mejias leans on his opponent trying to wear him down. As they grapple, Cara pushes his forearm into Mejias's face.  The referee separates the two fighters and warns Cara.  
Cara cuts off the ring, trapping Mejias on the ropes.  Cara is on target with a solid left hook.  
Cara hits home with a spiteful jab.  
Mejias is on target with a right hook.  
Mejias tries to step out of his opponents range.  Cara is on target with a cross.  
Mejias tries to keep the action at long range and hits home with an overhand left.  
Cara closes the distance and walks his opponent into the corner.  Mejias throws a right hook, but Cara ties up his opponent.  Mejias leans on his opponent using all his weight. The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
Mejias digs in a left hook to his opponents liver.  Cara holds on to his opponent.  Cara is using his forearm in the clinch.  The ref separates the two fighters.  
Cara lands a right hook.  
Cara sidesteps to the left of his opponent and connects with a right hook.  
Mejias connects with a left hook.  
Mejias is on target with a jab.  
Mejias switches the action to the outside and lands a jab to the body, a jab to the head and a cross to the head.  
Cara steps inside and digs in a left hook to Mejias's body.  
Cara manouvers his opponent onto the ropes.  Cara lands a right hook to the body, and then to the head.  
Mejias lands a right hook to the body, and then to the head.  
Cara is on target with a sharp left uppercut.  
Cara sidesteps to the left of his opponent and hits home with a sharp left hook.  
Cara sidesteps to the left of his opponent and is on target with a right hook.  
Cara lands a left uppercut to the body followed by a right hook to the head.  
Cara lands a double right hook to his opponents head.  
Mejias hits home with a right hook.  
Cara is on target with a forceful left hook.  IT LOOKS LIKE MEJIAS WAS HURT BY THAT SHOT!  Mejias almost instantly gets his legs back. 
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Mejias's trainer is suggesting ways of getting through to his opponent.  Mejias's trainer is passing on some tactical advice.

Mejias digs in a left hook to his opponents body.  Cara holds on to his opponent.  Cara leans on his opponent using all his weight. Mejias pushes his forearm into Cara's face.  The referee separates the two fighters and warns Mejias.  
Cara sidesteps to the left of his opponent.  Mejias lands a cross.  
Mejias tries to land a jab, but Cara sidesteps and counters with a solid right uppercut.  
Mejias tries to step out of his opponents range and is on target with a jab.  
Mejias is on target with a right uppercut to Cara's ribs.  
Cara closes the distance.  Mejias pivots to the left of his opponent and lands a left hook to the head, a right uppercut to the body and a right hook to the head.  
Mejias tries to land a right hook, but Cara blocks the shot and counters with a solid cross.  
Cara steps inside.  Mejias hits home with a right hook.  
Cara manouvers Mejias into the red corner.  Cara lands a left uppercut to the head followed by a right hook to the body.  
Cara connects with a stinging left uppercut.  
Cara is on target with a right hook.  
Cara quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent.  Mejias tries to land a left uppercut, but Cara blocks the shot and counters with a SAVAGE left hook.  MEJIAS IS HURT!  Mejias recovers before his opponent can take advantage. 
Mejias attempts to land a left hook, but Cara slips the shot and counters with a SAVAGE cross.  MEJIAS IS HURT!  Mejias recovers before his opponent can take advantage. 
Cara advances into close range and lands a left uppercut, left hook and a right hook to his opponents head, AND HIS OPPONENT IS HURT!  Mejias recovers before his opponent can take advantage. 
Cara advances into close range and is on target with a firm right hook to his opponents ribs.  
Cara lands a right hook to the head followed by a left hook to the body.  
Mejias tries to step out of his opponents range.  Cara lands three consecutive straights to his opponents head, AND SENDS MEJIAS SPRAWLING TO THE CANVAS!  He is back up on his feet at 8.  Mejias recovers before his opponent can take advantage.
