Rex Douillet vs John Rutherford

Boxing Daily Report from the Serero Promotions promoted show at Raleigh Handyside, Raleigh,  taking place on 30/12/2024:

Clearly Serero Promotions have made a mistake booking this venue with less than half the tickets sold, including those handed out as prizes by Boxing Daily.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 8 round matchup are Rex Douillet (2 - 0) who hails from Pittsburgh, USA and John Rutherford(2 - 1 - 1) from Bakersfield, USA.  Both Douillet and Rutherford weighed in at 175 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Felix Hughes, and the three ringside judges are Arthur Atcheson, Kian Bourne and Paul Gath.  

Round 1: 

Douillet advances into close range and lands a left hook to the body, and then to the head.  He then lands a left uppercut to the body followed by a right hook to the head.  
Douillet cuts off the ring, trapping Rutherford on the ropes.  Douillet drives a left hook into Rutherford's body.  
Douillet lands a right hook.  
Douillet is on target with a sharp jab.  
Douillet closes the distance.  Douillet is on target with a left uppercut.  Rutherford wants to work on the inside, but accidentally clashes heads with his opponent!  The ref does not appear to have noticed the clash as Douillet dabs at his face checking for damage.  
Douillet gets on the inside and throws a right hook, but is unable to get through his opponents guard.  Douillet clinches his opponent.  As they grapple, Rutherford pushes his forearm into Douillet's face.  The ref breaks Douillet's hold and signals for the fight to continue.  
Rutherford steps to the outside.  Douillet lands two consecutive overhand rights to his opponents head.  
Douillet is looking to close the distance.  Douillet sidesteps to the left of his opponent and lands three consecutive right hooks to his opponents ribs.  
Douillet forces Rutherford to retreat onto the ropes.  Douillet lands a left uppercut followed by a left hook to his opponents head.  
Douillet gets on the inside and throws a right uppercut, but the shot is blocked.  Douillet holds on to his opponent.  As they grapple, Douillet pushes his forearm into Rutherford's face.  The referee breaks the clinch and warns Douillet to stop fouling.  
Douillet advances into close range and lands a right hook to the head, a left hook to the body and a right hook to the body.  
Rutherford wants to work on the inside, but accidentally clashes heads with his opponent!  The ref acknowledges the accidental headclash but allows the action to continue.    It looks like the clash of heads has caused some damage to Douillet.  That has caused a slight cut  the right eye.  .  
Douillet is on target with a jab.  
Rutherford throws a right hook, but Douillet clinches his opponent.  Douillet throws a hook within the clinch but hits his opponent behind the head. The referee warns Douillet and breaks the clinch.  
Douillet forces Rutherford to back into the blue corner.  Douillet digs in a firm right hook to Rutherford's ribs.  As the two fighters work on the inside, their heads come together!  The ref does not appear to have noticed the clash as Douillet dabs at his face checking for damage.
