Phil McFarlane vs Ricky Leithead

Boxing Daily Report from the Frank Smith’s Tea Boy Promotions promoted show at Frank Gym, Manchester,  taking place on 20/02/2025:

The venue is completely packed out with the fans turning out in force to watch the fights on offer tonight.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 6 round matchup are Phil McFarlane (10 - 0) who hails from London, UK and Ricky Leithead(0 - 3 - 1) from Bury, UK.  Both McFarlane and Leithead weighed in at 122 pounds.  
The referee tonight is John Magee, and the three ringside judges are Kieran Saunders, Ibrahim Mohammad and Mark Bonnar.  

Round 1: 

McFarlane lands a cross.  
Leithead tries to land a left hook, but his opponent slips the shot and counters with a cross.  
McFarlane lands a left hook followed by a right uppercut to his opponents head.

McFarlane sidesteps to the left of his opponent.  Leithead throws a left hook, but McFarlane clinches his opponent.  McFarlane leans on his opponent using all his weight. McFarlane pushes his forearm into Leithead's face.  The ref halts the action and breaks the clinch.  He lectures McFarlane about fouling.  
McFarlane is on target with a cross.  McFarlane attempts to land a jab, but Leithead blocks the shot and counters with a left hook.  
McFarlane closes the distance and is on target with a right hook.  McFarlane ties up his opponent.  McFarlane leans on his opponent trying to wear him down. The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
Leithead sidesteps to the right of his opponent.  Leithead throws a right hook, but McFarlane ties up his opponent.  McFarlane hits his opponent with a kidney shot within the clinch. McFarlane leans on his opponent trying to wear him down. The ref breaks the clinch and signals for the action to continue.  
McFarlane pivots to the left of his opponent and hits home with a right hook.  
McFarlane pivots to the left of his opponent.  McFarlane attempts to land a left hook, but Leithead blocks the shot and counters with a left hook to his opponents liver.  
McFarlane forces Leithead to back into the ropes.  McFarlane drives a left hook into Leithead's body.  
McFarlane pivots to the left of his opponent and lands a left hook to the body, and then to the head.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Leithead's trainer is advising how he could improve the accuracy of his work.  Leithead's trainer is passing on some tactical advice.
