Joey Saam vs Michael Cowens

Boxing Daily Report from the Smoking Joe promoted show at Theater Center, Los Angeles,  taking place on 24/03/2025:

There are a few empty seats out here tonight, but this is a respectable turnout for the show.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 6 round matchup are Joey Saam (1 - 0) who hails from Cleveland, USA and Michael Cowens(9 - 10(1) - 1) from Anchorage, USA.  Both Saam and Cowens weighed in at 135 pounds.  
The referee tonight is William Shawn, and the three ringside judges are Robert Christopher, John Gourley and Gazi Pasha.  

Round 1: 

Saam advances into close range.  Cowens pivots to the left of his opponent.  Saam throws a left hook, but the shot lands on his opponents guard.  Saam clinches his opponent.  Saam is using his forearm in the clinch.  The referee breaks the clinch and warns Saam to stop fouling.  
Saam lands a cross to the body, and then to the head.  
Saam advances into close range and lands a right hook followed by a left hook to his opponents body.  
Saam drives a solid left hook into Cowens's liver.  Saam ties up his opponent.  Saam is leaning on his opponent in the clinch. The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
Cowens throws a left hook, but Saam holds on to his opponent.  Saam leans on his opponent using all his weight. The ref separates the two fighters.  
Saam walks Cowens down, trapping him in a corner.  Saam is on target with a stinging right uppercut.  
Saam lands a right uppercut followed by a right hook to his opponents head.  
Saam is looking to close the distance and connects with a sharp left uppercut.  Saam clinches his opponent.  Saam leans on his opponent trying to wear him down. The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
Saam lands a solid cross.  Saam tries to land a right hook, but Cowens blocks the shot and counters with a right uppercut.  
Saam closes the distance and lands three consecutive right hooks to his opponents head.  Saam ties up his opponent.  Saam is leaning on his opponent in the clinch. Saam tries to make the space to throw a hook, but hits Cowens behind the head. The ref halts the action and breaks the clinch.  He lectures Saam about fouling.  
Cowens is looking to keep the action on the outside.  Saam lands a jab.  
Saam advances into close range and lands a left uppercut followed by a left hook to his opponents head.  
Saam sidesteps to the left of his opponent.  Cowens is on target with a right hook.  
Saam walks his opponent down, trapping him on the ropes.  Saam lands a left uppercut to the body, a right hook to the head and a left hook to the head.  
Saam throws a left hook, but his opponent sidesteps and counters with a left uppercut.  
Saam lands a left hook.  
Cowens tries to step out of his opponents range.  Saam lands two consecutive straights to his opponents head.  
Saam steps inside and tries to land a left hook, but Cowens dodges the shot and counters with a left uppercut.  
Saam lands a stinging right hook.  
Saam advances into close range and hits home with a right hook.  
Saam is on target with a stinging left hook.  Saam ties up his opponent.  The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  As Cowens tries to work on the inside, the fighters heads come together!  The ref does not appear to have noticed the clash as Saam dabs at his face checking for damage.  
Saam walks Cowens into the blue corner.  Saam lands a left hook to the body followed by a right hook to the head.  
Saam sidesteps to the right of his opponent.  Saam lands a left uppercut followed by a right uppercut to his opponents head.  Saam holds on to his opponent.  Saam uses his free hand to throw a body hook, but it lands on Cowens's kidney. The ref breaks Saam's hold and signals for the fight to continue.  
Saam lands a left hook followed by a right uppercut to his opponents body.  
Cowens switches the action to the outside.  Saam is on target with a firm cross.  
Saam closes the distance and lands a left hook to the head, a right hook to the head and a left hook to the body.  Saam ties up his opponent.  Saam leans on his opponent trying to wear him down. The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Cowens's trainer is telling his fighter he is being outworked and needs to throw more.  Cowens's trainer is passing on some tactical advice.  Cowens's trainer is telling his fighter to tighten his defence.

Saam attempts to land a cross, but Cowens slips the shot and counters with a cross.  
Saam gets on the inside and lands a right uppercut to the head, a left hook to the body and a left uppercut to the head.  
Saam lands a right hook to the head, a left uppercut to the head and a right hook to the body.  
Saam advances into close range and lands a left hook to the body followed by a right hook to the head.  
Cowens tries to land a jab, but Saam sidesteps and counters with a right uppercut.  
Saam closes the distance and manouvers his opponent into the red corner.  Saam connects with a right hook.  
Saam lands a cross.  
Cowens tries to keep the action at long range.  Saam connects with an overhand right.  
Cowens steps to the outside.  Saam lands an overhand right followed by a cross to his opponents head.  
Saam strikes his opponents body with a cross.  
Cowens is looking to keep his distance.  Saam quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent and is on target with a solid cross.
