Mick Malcom vs John Gikonyo

Boxing Daily Report from the Rattlesnake Promotions promoted show at Meadowbrook Recreation Center, Arlington,  taking place on 16/05/2025:

There are a few empty seats out here tonight, but this is a respectable turnout for the show.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 10 round matchup are Mick Malcom (16 - 0) who hails from Sacremento, USA and John Gikonyo(7 - 3 - 1) from Nairobi, Kenya.  Malcom weighed in at 174 pounds and 9 ounces, while Gikonyo weighed in at 175 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Amon East, and the three ringside judges are Harry Burwick, Mike Ruane and James Kinman.  

Round 1: 

Malcom sidesteps to the right of his opponent and digs in a right uppercut to Gikonyo's ribs.  
Malcom connects with a cross.  
Gikonyo pivots to the left of his opponent.  Malcom lands a jab, right uppercut and a cross to his opponents head.  
Malcom steps inside.  Malcom pivots to the side of his opponent and lands a left hook to the body, and then to the head.

Gikonyo throws a jab, but his opponent sidesteps and counters with a left uppercut.

The ref acknowledges the accidental headclash but allows the action to continue.  Gikonyo has been damaged by the clash of heads.  That has caused swelling  around the left eye.
