Leighton Chemutai vs Ricky Maingi

Boxing Daily Report from the AI Kenya-Kisumu promoted show at Kisumu Kanda, Kisumu,  taking place on 27/09/2035:

There are a few empty seats out here tonight, but this is a respectable turnout for the show.  
Next up is the main event of the show.  This is a final eliminator for the Kenya-Kisumu Light Heavyweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 10 round matchup are Leighton Chemutai (11(7) - 0) who hails from Kisumu, Kenya and Ricky Maingi(7 - 3(1) - 2) from Kisumu, Kenya.  Both Chemutai and Maingi weighed in at 175 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Mark Lavatsa, and the three ringside judges are Alen Mwamzandi, Kendis Rimbui and David Macgoye.  

Round 1: 

Maingi is looking to close the distance.  Chemutai pivots to the side of his opponent and connects with a stinging left hook.

Maingi closes the distance.  Chemutai is on target with a right hook.  Chemutai ties up his opponent.  Maingi is leaning on his opponent in the clinch. The ref breaks Chemutai's hold and signals for the fight to continue.  
Maingi forces Chemutai to back into the ropes.  Maingi tries to land a left hook, but his opponent sidesteps and counters with a right uppercut.

Maingi steps inside.  Maingi pivots to the side of his opponent.  Maingi throws a right uppercut, but Chemutai holds on to his opponent.  Chemutai leans on his opponent trying to wear him down. The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
Maingi is looking to close the distance.  Chemutai lands a right hook to the body followed by a left uppercut to the head.  Chemutai ties up his opponent.  Chemutai is using his forearm in the clinch.  The referee warns Chemutai and breaks the clinch.  
Chemutai is looking to keep his distance and lands a straight 1 - 2.  
Maingi closes the distance.  Chemutai pivots to the side of his opponent and lands two left hook's to the body followed by a left uppercut to the head.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Maingi's trainer is telling his fighter he needs to be more active or he's going to get outworked.  Maingi's trainer is advising how he could stop so many clean shots getting through.

Chemutai hits home with a stinging left uppercut.  Chemutai attempts to land a left hook, but Maingi sidesteps and counters with a cross.  
Chemutai lands a right hook to the head followed by a left hook to the body.  
Chemutai sidesteps to the right of his opponent and lands a jab, overhand right and a jab to his opponents head.  
Chemutai connects with a cross.  
Chemutai steps to the outside and lands a straight 1 - 2.

Maingi steps inside and throws a left hook, but Chemutai holds on to his opponent.  As they grapple, Maingi pushes his forearm into Chemutai's face.  The ref halts the action and breaks the clinch.  He lectures Maingi about fouling.  
Chemutai steps away from his opponent and lands two straights to the head followed by a jab to the body.  
Chemutai is on target with a jab.  
Chemutai lands a cross followed by a overhand right to his opponents head.  He then lands a cross followed by a jab to his opponents head.  
Maingi gets on the inside and forces Chemutai to retreat onto the ropes.  Maingi connects with a left hook.  
Chemutai lands a jab followed by  two overhand rights to his opponents head.  
Maingi attempts to land a jab, but Chemutai blocks the shot and counters with a spiteful left hook.  MAINGI WAS STUNNED BY THAT SHOT!  Maingi almost instantly gets his legs back.
